What does humankind mean to you?
Humankind means unity. It means one. All people being interconnected as one group.
What’s the best advice that you could give to someone who wants to be an ally?
To listen, to learn, and to be an advocate every day all day. Being an ally doesn’t stop when the world is not watching. Being an ally is a constant responsibility.
What’s your greatest wish for the world?
For kids to not feel obligated to announce their identities to the world. I would love to see a future where being different is normal and accepted.
This month is pride month. Through recent events this word extends beyond the LGBTQ+ community. What is pride to you?
It has taken a long time for me to get comfortable in my own skin. As a Black gay man, pride to me means accepting and loving who I am and what I represent. Regardless of who you are, no one else is allowed to have power over you but you. Pride to me is being able to say this is who I am... Take it or leave it.
If there were one word that you could use to solve the world’s problems, what would it be and why?
Harmony. Webster defines harmony as an interweaving of different accounts into a single narrative. If we took this approach as people and tried to understand those who were different than us, then we could achieve a balance like no other.
