What does humankind mean to you?
Humankind is the collective term for all of us, showing us that we are all in this together and we need to be kind to our fellow humans.
What’s the best advice that you could give to someone who wants to be an ally?
Go learn and go do it! It is not a marginalized group’s job to tell you what is wrong, how to fix it, and to do the work for you. It is up to us to go learn from the last and go forward to make it right.
Can you tell us a time when you might have been discriminated against? Or felt unimportant? Or a time when you had self-doubt? How did you overcome that type of adversity?
I was discriminated against for much of my younger teen years for being gay. I was threatened to be killed by my father at 12. I was harassed in school and then I was told to “deal with it” by my guidance counselor. So I head to learn to love myself, even with all the hate being spewed onto me, and when i started to get that it started to get better. The most important thing is to love yourself for who you are, and not determine your worth based on other people's hurtful words.
What’s your greatest wish for the world?
That humanity can learn that we are all different and that’s exactly the way it should be.
This month is pride month. Through recent events this word extends beyond the LGBTQ+ community. What is pride to you?
Pride is loving every part of who you are and not apologizing for it. It’s not a sin, it’s a celebration.
If there were one word that you could use to solve the world’s problems, what would it be and why?
